Let Go of Fear By Taking Action

Have you ever not done something out of fear? It can be as simple as the fear to join a yoga class - I have heard countless people say "Oh I can't do yoga - I am scared I will look like a fool".
Despite the fact that the main practice of yoga is cultivating awareness, and that the pose itself is secondary, if you have never tried yoga and don't yet own this philosophy it makes sense that fear might stop you from trying something that can improve your life. Whether it is trying a yoga class, or anything else in your life that you want to go for - recognize that you have a choice even if fear creeps in. Every time you choose to act, and do something despite saying or thinking “I can’t”, is proving to your body, mind and spirit that the thought was false. Every time you think “I can’t do that” or “that’s not for me”, but you go out and do it anyways, you are proving your mind wrong. Fear only has power if you choose to let it stop you from taking action. Conversely every time you take action despite the fear in your mind, you diminish the power fear has in your life.
When excuses and fear arise, you need to go out and act anyways. Furthermore, Excuses cannot exist when you are fully engaged  in the present. The fear is a by-product of your thinking mind that is not fully engaged. By practicing being in-the-moment, your ability to let go of fear and excuses will happen with more ease. Thus the secret of combatting fear is actually no secret at all  – it is about deciding that the next time fear or excuses arise, you will get up, get out, and act, no matter what. Challenge yourself on seemingly insignificant things such as joining that class you are ambivalent to try, and begin to notice the profound changes it can make in other areas of your life.

Take The Challenge:
This week, commit to stepping out of your comfort zone - whether it is taking a class, making a phone call or saying hi to a stranger on the street - find something small that you know you want to do and that its only fear and judgement that is holding you back. Commit to doing it no matter what.
