Today I’m sharing how Tarot and Oracle cards, are a helpful tool for accessing insight and support for your business and life. Plus I’ll be sharing 5 keys to help you work with Tarot and Oracle cards.
Life doesn’t always flow according to the plan we had in our mind. The other day I met one of my neighbors as she walked her dog. We started chatting about work and she said “How did I end up here—this was not the plan” and I laughed and said “Yeah, life has a mind of its own”
When things feel confusing, when we have a difficult decision to make, or we’ve had a terrible day and want some insight about what we can learn about the day’s events—in all these instances—Oracle and Tarot Cards can give us the insight, guidance and intuitive support we need to help us move forward with more ease.
I first played with Oracle cards back in 2006. I was in a Vancouver coffee shop that had a deck of Angel cards by Doreen Virtue. And so I was introduced to the world of Oracle Cards. Although I can’t remember it now, I know that whatever I asked that deck was so accurate I went straight to the Metaphysical Bookstore nearby (Banyen Books in Vancouver) and purchased the deck.
As my interest in Tarot grew so did my Oracle Deck Collection. Through years of practicing with Oracle/Tarot Decks on both myself and with friends, I’ve come up with 5 keys for the oracle journey:
1. Connect with the deck
Not all decks are going to resonate with you. Every deck has an energy, which often relates to the creator of the deck and how the messages and feeling of the deck resonates with you. Sometimes you’ll feel an instant attraction to a deck and other times you’ll find that no matter what card you pull nothing feels right. Trust your feelings. Not all decks work for everybody. I’ve had decks that although at first glance I purchased them, it was like we never really hit it off, and those are the decks I’ve passed on to friends who had an immediate vibrational resonance with the decks. So there may be a deck that your friend loves that you don’t or Vice Versa. Basically—take some time to connect with the deck and feel for yourself if it’s the right ally to work with in gaining insight and support.
2. Connect with your own Energy
Take a few moments to pause from whatever chaos you’ve been dealing with and take a few seconds to ground and focus on your breath. Notice what’s coming up for you: any thoughts, feelings or questions you have. Then being present with the feeling and/or question that comes up for you, ask the deck to lend you support and guidance.
3. Shuffle the deck the way you want
You may find that as you meditate on your question, you’ll shuffle the cards at the same time. I find it helpful to focus my attention on whatever issue I’m having and to shuffle the deck with that focus in mind. However, there is no right or wrong way to shuffle a deck. Give yourself permission to do it any way you want. And even when you pull a card, you can fan the cards out, you can split a deck in half, you can shuffle and pull the top card, or any other way that feels right for you. Since this is an intuitive process, start trusting your intuition to guide in every way—including how you shuffle the deck and draw the card.
4. Play and Experiment
This is one of the most important lessons in life and business! In Business we need to constantly experiment with new ideas and offers to see what we enjoy and what others will receive. As I’ve talked about many times before, there is no such thing as a blueprint to business and anyone who tells you there is is lying! There are certain experiments that may have a good track record at working in creating business success: but ultimately you need to test it out for yourself to see if it works for your business and feels right for you. The same can be said for everything in life: and this includes your Oracle Readings. Experiment with different card spreads. Experiment with different decks.
If you live in a place where there is a metaphysical shop, often they’ll have decks you can play with to decide which one you want to purchase. Often there is an accompanying guidebook with a Tarot deck that will suggest different spread options, and I recommend trying on those spreads: experiment with them. Ultimately allow your inner guidance and intuition to guide how you play with the cards. There are so many ways to play with a deck that you’re best off to experiment a little until you start to feel more comfortable and feel a natural ease about playing with the cards.
5. Always Trust Your Gut
Sometimes you’ll receive a card, or a spread of cards that feels so right-on. You will feel so guided and connected—this is when you know you’ve had a wonderful connection to the spirit of the cards. It will feel like a best friend just gave you some wonderful advice that your heart knows is accurate and supportive.
Other times you’ll feel a sense of “This doesn’t feel accurate” Or “I don’t see any connection here” This is like when a friend or colleague gives you advice that your heart knows: “I see what you’re saying, but that just doesnt land for me…doesn’t feel quite right”
:Trust your gut.
See the cards as well-meaning friends and colleagues. Sometimes their advice is immensely on-point and helpful. Other-times the advice is off (although well-meaning). And just like our friends: we’ll always thank them for their time and well-meaning support, but we’ll only take to heart that which our heart already knows in true.
Always trust your intuition above and beyond any reading you give yourself or receive from somebody else.
